Artists create to support local schools

Four rounds, 15 local artists, 37 original works, one champion.

April 24 will bring the second annual fundraiser, The Brush Off, to The London Regional Children's Museum. The Brush Off promises to be a wonderful night of fun, laughter and above all creativity with 15 local artists creating works of art during four timed rounds of competition.

Each piece of art will be created live in front of the audience. There will be many unique silent and live auction items to accompany the paintings created that night. This is an interactive experience as attendees will get the opportunity to cast their votes for their favourite paintings of the night, and a champion will be crowned at the end of the four rounds.

The Brush Off raises funds to subsidize school trips from London's “priority schools” to The Children's Museum. These schools reside in areas of poverty and face difficulties in covering costs to bring the children off-site. The Children's Museum will provide a hot lunch for each child and a day of curriculum connected programing and lots of time to play!

Linda Leja, the Museum's director of development, said, “[Founder] Carol Johnston's vision for Canada's very first Children's Museum was simple: an even playing field for all children, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, financial circumstances or cultural background. The Brush Off allows us to uphold Carol's promise to the hundreds of students in London, regardless of their circumstances.”

In 2013, The Brush Off proceeds covered the costs of bringing 433 children to The Children's Museum. This year, the Museum is raising the bar; they have 1,000 public school children in mind and want to make sure they all get to the Museum for a day of play. For every $1,000 raised, two classes will experience a special day at the Museum.

The Brush Off is the first of its kind here in London and has proven to be a great success. Many talented local artists have signed on and are already planning out their paintings. TD is proud to be returning as Presenting Sponsor in 2014. Their support of The Children's Museum and their shared vision of providing children quality educational experiences have proven to be an integral part of the event's success.

Students from Fanshawe College are encouraged to volunteer their time at the event. Hands are always needed to provide an extra special experience for attendees. From cleaning the artists' brushes and water to making sure the auctions run smoothly, all help is welcomed and appreciated.
