Music this week in London

Band: Avenged Sevenfold
Date: Wednesday, September 20 2006, 7p.m.
Venue: Centennial Hall

Fresh off a summer tour sharing the main stage of Ozzfest 2006 with such bands as Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down, and Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold is kicking off a headlined tour starting in the United States and Canada, and finishing off in Europe in the early part of 2007.

Showcasing songs from their 2005 album and first major label release, City of Evil, Avenged Sevenfold features a unique mix of heavy metal and emo. Hailing from Huntington Beach California, Avenged Sevenfold strays away from the trendy punk-scene and has attempted to make a name and sound for themselves.

“In Southern California you're really brought up in the whole punk world,” said lead vocalist M. Shadows on the bands website www.avengedsevenfold.com.

“At the same time, we were growing up listening to Pantera, Megadeath, Metallica and Slayer records. So then you think, 'I want to play in that kind of band, but I want to play in this kind of band.' Then you pass that point and all of a sudden you're just writing music and it comes naturally.”

Avenged Sevenfold will rock Centennial Hall on September 20 in an all ages show with opening acts Protest the Hero and 3 Inches of Blood kicking things off. Tickets are $36.25 and can be purchased at The John Labatt Centre Box Office, charge by phone at 1-866-455-2849, or by visiting www.hob.ca.
