Patrick Johnston, head coach of Fanshawe's men's volleyball team, will be coaching the 16U Team Ontario team along with Fanshawe's women's volleyball team head coach Sean Pellow.

Ontario Volleyball announced that Patrick Johnston and Sean Pellow, Fanshawe’s men’s and women’s volleyball head coaches, have been named Head Coaches of the 16U Team Ontario Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams.

The teams will be heading to Brock University in July to compete in the National Team Challenge Cup, with provinces battling each other for the title.

The two coaches have clearly been doing something right. The Fanshawe men’s volleyball team is currently ranked second in the CCAA and in first place in the OCAA West Division and the women’s volleyball team is currently ranked third in the OCAA West Division

Johnston, on his third year as the men’s team coach at Fanshawe, said he was happy to learn he was named Head Coach, especially considering his experience with the competition.

“It’s an honour for me as a former player in the program. It’s really great to be given the opportunity to coach in the program after seeing it from the other side,” Johnston said.

Johnston said what makes a great coach is a willingness to adapt to new players and new situations.

“Every team, every athlete has different needs and different personalities and different dynamics, so it’s important to adjust in the heat of the moment and be able to do what’s right for that particular group,” he said.

In the 2015 competition the 16U Ontario Red team ranked first in both the men’s and women’s division, with the Ontario Black team ranking fifth in the men’s league and fourth in the women’s league.
