Falcons serve a toss up

On Nov. 26 both men's and women's volleyball faced off against the Humber Hawks. The women's team had a steep task ahead, facing the second ranked team in all of Canada.

In the first set, the Falcons had a 3-1 lead but excellent serving by the Hawks put the Falcons behind.

Humber took over and went on a 12-1 run and continued to attack while putting up several blocks at the net, with the Hawks winning the first set 25-11according to a Falcons press release.

Hunter Medd had two kills in the first set for the Falcons, the press release said.

In the second set, Humber led 9-4, but several serving hiccups caused the Falcons to stay in the set.

Lindsay Wilcox served four straight and Fanshawe found themselves within four at 19-15.

A kill made by Allysha Couch excited the crowd and gave the team some hope, but Humber would go on to take the second set 25-17.

Start of the third Humber's ruthless attack continued with the Falcons trailing 8-4.

According to the press release, the Falcons built up a little bit of momentum with aces made by Wilcox and Couch and after another ace, the Falcons were within two, 15-13. Humber however, finished the game on a 10-3 run and took the set 25-16.

Falcons' Wilcox finished with four kills and one ace, and Renee McCormick finished with five kills.

Currently placed as the fifth ranked team in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the men also took on the undefeated male Hawks.

According to the Falcons press release, the Hawks flew ahead to a 7-2 lead within the first set, with back-to-back aces made by Clayton Blanchette.

The Falcons fought back and took the lead after a diving save by David Gundrum and a kill made by Nate Van Camp.

The Hawks battled back and regained their lead as big as seven points, leaving the Falcons little time to recover.

The Hawks went on to take the first set 25-18 with Blanchette scoring a game-high of 12 points, according to the press release.

The Falcons started the second set with a 6-3 lead, forcing the Hawks into many hitting errors. This gave the Falcons a 14-7 lead.

The Falcons continued the attack down the middle with the help of Evan Ravn and Mike Liscumb.

In an even set the Falcons would go on to take it 25-14 with five different Falcons scoring multiple times.

The third set saw some fantastic serving by James Jackson, which would give the Falcons a 7-4 lead.

The Falcons continued to win the battle at the net, causing the Hawks to call a timeout after being down 13-6 after a big stuff block by Sebastian Lethbridge, the press release said.

Liscumb put the exclamation point on the game with a block on set point and the Falcons finished the game on a 12-7 to win 25-13.

According to the press release, after a 4-4 start in the fourth set, Falcon's James Jackson electrified the fans with a right side attack that brought the entire gym to their feet. 

The Falcons went on an 11-4 run to take a commanding 15-8 lead with Lethbridge running the offense, spreading the ball around to everyone and doing an all-around terrific job, the release said.

According to the release, the Falcons pulled away and won the set 25-19, with Jackson having led the Falcons with 15 kills.
