Mess on Second Street

More lack of respect shown after another act of vandalism.

Several items including a barbeque, mattress, empty liquor bottle, lawn chairs and smashed beer bottles were sporadically spread all over a sidewalk on Second Street, along-side Fanshawe College, early Friday morning, October 6.

Assistant Manager of the Marketing and Communications Department Jeff Sage said he had not received any information regarding this specific incident.

However, Sage said the College has taken initiatives to combat incidents similar to this.

“If it is a criminal issue then the police will be involved otherwise it is an issue of public decency,” Sage said.

The Speak Easy program with the London police department, and the Fanshawe College Off-Campus Housing Mediation Service are two initiatives the college utilizes to help prevent, and to also deal with off-campus student related incidents Sage said.

“Our reach ends there in terms of off-campus issues,” said Sage.

Project Speakeasy was developed in April of 2005 and has successfully addressed community concerns of residents living in neighbourhoods bordering the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College.

The Mediation Service at the College is a free confidential resource that seeks to assist in the speedy resolution of problems that may arise between students and landlords, students and London residents and/or students and students in the areas of housing and lifestyles. The service offers the concerned parties a forum to represent and discuss their problems before a neutral third party.
