Knights' Night: Knights are rolling at near perfect time

London Knights play with confidence heading into the post-season, where anything can really happen.

At this point in the season, the London Knights are playing for two things: home ice advantage in the playoffs, and pride.

I talked last week about how London's first-round opponent is almost certainly going to be the Owen Sound Attack.

Now, all that's left to be decided is who will have the home ice advantage.

Lately, the Knights are proving that they'll be nothing close to an easy out come playoff time.

London has won six of their last eight games dating back to Feb. 16. Four of those six wins have come on the road.

In fact, London's last three games were all on the road. And they were all W's.

Without question, the Knights are heating up at the perfect time. With only six games remaining in the regular season, beginning the playoffs on a streak is ideal.

However, while London is 7-3 in their last ten, Owen Sound has been no slouch.

They've also won seven of their last ten games, and sit just two points back of the Knights for the fourth spot in the Western Conference.

Very likely, it could come down to the last few days of the regular season before the seeding is set.

Regardless, the Knights have been playing some great hockey.

In just four days, London racked up three road wins in a row, scoring an impressive 14 goals in that span.

It began in Peterborough on March 1. The Knights came back on three separate occasions to knock off the Pete's, 4-3.

Alex Formenton scored the game winner with less than four minutes to play in the third period.

First-round draft pick Nathan Dunkley was excellent, scoring the tying goal, and picking up an assist to boot.

With less than 24 hours to recover, the Knights then headed to Kingston for a tough meeting with the Frontenac's.

But not even the elite Eastern squad could crack backup goaltender Jordan Kooy. He made 25 saves for the shutout.

Liam Foudy scored twice, while rookie Billy Moskal also lit the lamp for London.

Finally, it was off to TD Place in Ottawa for a date with the 67's on March. 4.

It turned out to be a crazy one; a 12-goal affair saw the Knights come out on top, 7-5.

London had six rookies playing in the game, and four of them got on the score sheet at least once.

Moskal and 2016 fourth-round draft selection Alec Regula both scored.

Both Richard Whittaker (2016 fourth-round) and Andrew Perrott (2017 second-round) picked up assists.

Formenton was great again, scoring the game winning goal, while scooping an assist of his own. He was named the game's first star.

After a great weekend showing on the road, the Knights return to Budweiser Gardens for the next two.

They welcome the Guelph Storm on March 7, before Erie comes to town on March 9.

It could be too early to say, but if London can continue the success they've had on the road the last week and translate it into a few home wins, it could be just what they need to secure home ice advantage.

One thing is for sure though; the Knights are playing with confidence, and that's just what they need heading into the post-season.
