First show in London gains fans

It's very difficult for a band to get noticed in the music scene these days. Finding your own sound, in a sea of generic clone wannabe's, can be a daunting task for any up and coming group.

The End of August, however, has accomplished this with a mix of heavily distorted and soft sounding melodic guitars, courtesy of Marco and Geoff. As well as a wide vocal range spanning from sharp and sugary, to deep and raw, due mostly to lead singer Ross. Couple all of this with a great drummer, Jeff, and bass guitarist, Anthony, The End of August has emerged with unique sound is quickly turning heads.

Although they have just recently established themselves as a band (April of this year to be exact), The End of August has already made an impact. In the space of six months, they have already signed with SOLID Management and have recorded a very rough demo of five songs.

Currently, the demo is being re-recorded at Interface Records, as the original does little justice to their talent judging by the great show they put on at the Embassy on Friday, October 13th.

Wanting to keep an unbiased approach, I hadn't listened to The End of August before the show. Thinking I had arrived during the set of the first band, having understood that The End of August was second on the line up, I walked into the club having no idea that the line up had changed and the band I was there to see was actually already playing.

It was pretty damn early still and not too many people were there yet, so I wandered over to the bar and then back to the stage to watch the first act. I watched and listened to the unknown band play a couple of songs and was very impressed to say the least.

It was nice to see a band put on such an intense and thrilling performance, complete with “horror style” theatrics in honour of the unofficial holiday, in front of a small crowd of only 20 or so.

Now, you're probably asking yourself “Why is he telling us this random crap?” Well it was at this point that their manager, Andre, tapped me on the shoulder, shook my hand and yelled in my ear “You showed up just in time, they just started.”

I was under the impression that I had stumbled upon some unknown local band, but was very impressed to see that it was The End of August. This was their first time in London and it was very nice to see a band put forth such an impressive effort while seemingly not caring how many people were there, just as long as someone was.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly what a band should be all about. If you'd like to see what The End of August has to offer you might want to go to one of their shows, they are touring in November with Dear Jane I…, but in the mean time, Myspace still prevails as a great way to check out new bands.
