On April 19, the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) is hosting a Glow Run and after party as one of their final events to conclude another semester full of exciting events for students.

At the event, participants will illuminate the Fanshawe London campus by wearing glow sticks, glow bracelets, glow face paint and other luminescence items while going for a 2.5 kilometre run. Following the run, students will have the opportunity to have some fun at the after party, which will take place in The Out Back Shack.

The run, which will start in the SUB Courtyard at 8 p.m., is open to everyone with tickets costing $10. Individuals who choose to participate in the run will receive a t-shirt, luminescent items to help them glow during the run and food at the party. If attendees would just like to attend the free of charge after party, which will begin at 9 p.m., students must bring their student cards and attendees who are not Fanshawe students, must be 19 years of age or older. A cash bar will be available and a DJ will also be present at the after party. Registration for the run can be completed at the Biz Booth on campus.

All the proceeds for both the Glow Run and the after party will go towards the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). The CMHA is the FSU’s charity of choice this year. Jahmoyia Smith, the FSU Advocacy and Communications Co-ordinator, explained that the FSU so far has fundraised about $4,000 towards the CMHA. She said the FSU is hoping to raise as much funds as they can at the Glow Run and party event towards their goal of $10,000.

Smith said this is the second time the FSU will host a Glow Run. The last Glow Run took place at the London campus a few years ago. Smith said she hopes that participants will feel good about giving back to the community through attending the event. In addition, she said the Glow Run is an opportunity for students to relieve some of their stress, since the run takes place the day before the final day of classes. “We hope students have fun, relieve some stress and [are] active,” Smith said.

“It will be one last big bash with your campus friends for the school year. Everyone is invited. We hope there is a huge turn out,” Kate Morris, Student Life Co-ordinator for the FSU said.

As the winter semester is coming to a close, Morris shared her thoughts on being able to help put together so many different and interesting events for students throughout the year, “It’s been an incredible journey to be able to help plan all these amazing events for students and see all the different faces that turn out every time. Our volunteers have been so great in helping and assisting us. We couldn’t have done all of this without them. […] I’m so grateful and thankful to have had this opportunity and look forward to seeing what is going on next year too.”
