Exec Corner: Low on cash, big on fun

Here are fun things to do without much cash because I know you're dirt poor like me.

Here are some web sites you can search for things to do in London, which I won't be able to mention due to limited space. fsu.on.ca, thinklondon.ca, tourismlondon.ca (calendar of events), mainstreetlondon.ca, london.ca, londonsource.com, or go find a Scene Magazine, which are available on campus or various locations downtown.

There are clubs at Fanshawe and if you can't find one you like, start a new one. You can even apply for funding. Check the clubs list at fsu.on.ca, or www.myspace.com/fanshawestudentunion in the blog section.

My first suggestion is go get a walking/biking path map of London; you can grab one at City Hall and get a LTC bus map, too. Now that you have a map, get a friend and get on a bus and find the Thames River. Once you are at the Thames look for a path and get on it. Once you are on it you will have days of paths to walk on. Just bring clothes you can get wet or muddy in, otherwise, you'll be prancing around and miss out on all of the fun. If you can't find the path, make your own.

If you have some cash, invest in roller blades or a bike and a lock. There are paths galore in London and a lot of the streets are pretty smooth for blading on.

There are also some rocking bike trails out in the west end, and there is Fanshawe Lake in the east and if you like road gaps, you will be able to find plenty in London if you look. Some places I would recommend going for a hike are the Westminster ponds in the south or the Sifton Bog out in the west end of London; the ground floats and you can walk on it. That's all I'm going to say.

Are you into roller-skating? North London Optimist Centre, right behind Fanshawe, has roller-skating, with theme music and skate rentals, it's a fun night out and less than $10. If you like skating and don't have skates, get a used pair and go to Victoria Park or the Covent Garden Market. As long as it is freeze-your-butt-off weather, there is free public skating and it's awesome.

If you play or are into live music, go to the London Music Club, it a tight little joint, and most events are free. If you have a few cents to spare, the club it's fully licensed and the food is great. www.londonmusicclub.150m.com/

Something else that's fun is Salsa Wednesday night at Old Chicago's, rock climbing, laser quest, paint ball, cosmic bowling, the arcades.

I would go on and on but you will have to find the rest because it's up to you to be boring and say London sucks, or get out and choose your own rocking adventure in London. And remember, if you paid loads to do it you probably got ripped off.
