FSU taking care of your teeth

Fanshawe student's smiles could be getting a bit brighter in the near future.

A referendum is going to be held from Tuesday, January 30 to Friday, February 2 on campus in regards to dental coverage being added to student's health benefits.

President of the Fanshawe Student Union Christine Thomson said the plan is great and will help students save money by utilizing the potential plan.

“It cost me $155 to get my teeth cleaned two months ago, so you get your money back just with the one aspect of the plan,” Thomson said.

The price of the dental coverage would be up to $75 and it would be added to student's tuition fees.

Thomson said the plan would include 100 per cent coverage of one exam including any necessary x-rays, 75 per cent of any tooth coloured fillings, and 75 per cent of some oral surgery including two wisdom teeth.

If students are covered with their parents plan, then they could opt out of the plan and get their money back Thomson said.

Polling stations will be located around campus between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Tuesday January 30 to Friday, February 2. Traveling stations will be in residences and some classrooms as well according to Thomson.

“Students will also be able to vote on our web site (www.fsu.on.ca),” Thomson said.

In order for the referendum to be valid, 20 per cent of the student population are required to vote, and 51 per cent of the votes need to say yes in order for the referendum to be successful.
