Over the Fence

RE: Fanshawe College's new fence at the Second St. entrace

So myself and my roommate were on our regular walk home to the college mews, when we were surprised to find that the fence by the crosswalk had been totally blocked off. There are probably hundreds of students who walk that way daily and it just doesn't make sense not to have a way for students to get through.

I understand they are trying to deal with the safety of students, and if this is so, why not put a gate there where it is opened in the early morning and closed by 9 p.m. at night? If you're going to totally block off students from walking there they might as well take the cross walk away.

Students are still trying to cross there by jumping the fence. Isn't this a safety issue? I know because my roommate and I both climbed then fence and saw about 20 others do it too. If students are going to try and jump over the fence anyway they might as well consider opening a section of the fence.
