Men's volleyball eyeing OCAA birth

The Fanshawe Falcons men's volleyball team has some momentum heading into the OCAA championships.

The Fanshawe Falcons men's volleyball team is currently in first place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) West division as they held an 8-2 record going into their final game of the regular season on February 15 at Mohawk College.

The Falcons have turned around their season after dropping their last two matches of 2006 with two losses to Niagara College, finishing the first semester with a 3-2 record.

The Falcons rebounded in 2007 pulling off five-straight victories against teams from St. Clair, Redeemer, Nipissing, Canadore and Sheridan, to lead the Falconsto an 8-2 record overall in the OCAA.

Highlights from the Falcons 3-0 straight sets victory over Sheridan on February 8 included Ted Bowcock and Jonathan Hillis of the Falcons scoring a combined 23 points in the victory.

Scheduled to play Mohawk on February 14, the game was postponed until February 15 due to inclement weather to the Hamilton region that caused Mohawk College to close for the day of February 14.

Fanshawe is in the position to make the OCAA championship if they were victorious over Mohawk in their final regular season match.

Fanshawe, Niagara, and Redeemer all had an opportunity to claim the first round bye in the OCAA Championships, but all needed a victory in order to be granted this luxury.

The OCAA Championships are scheduled from February 22 to February 24 and will be hosted by Georgian College in Barrie.
