Sports Briefs: Female runners wanted; men's soccer team struggles

Women's soccer improve to 3-0
Sarah Nishikawa and Melissa Elie scored for the Falcons who edged out the Mohawk Mountaineers on September 27th by a score of 2-0. Elie, whose 4 goals lead the league, is sparking the Falcons who sit in 1st place in the OCAA West division. The team faces Humber on Oct 1, hosts Cambrian on Oct. 2 and travels to Sheridan Oct. 6.

Fanshawe Golf team in action
Matt Tindale fired a 71 during the first round of the St. Clair Golf Invitational, leading the entire individual field. The Falcons as a team finished third after the entire event spanning September 22nd — 23rd. The Falcons improved one spot and finished second when they hosted the Fanshawe Open on September 25th at the Fanshawe Golf and Country Club.

Cross Country team searching for female runners
The Fanshawe varsity cross-country season is under way, but the team is still searching for women runners to join the squad, anyone interested should contact Joanne Verbeek at the Athletic Department. The team recently participated in the St. Lawrence College XC Invitational. Samara Cahais finished 15th out of 33 runners on the women's side, and the Falcon men placed 2nd out of 12 schools in the team competition. John Mason had the best time for Fanshawe, placing 2nd out of 82 total runners.

Men's soccer still struggling
The men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Mohawk Mountaineers on September 28th. The loss drops the Falcons record in the regular season to 1-2, and hurts their playoff positioning. Greg Remijm scored the lone goal for the Falcons, giving him 3 goals on the season.
