2007/2008 President's Perspective: Your nerdilicious President

I am about to write two separate columns, one will be the Student Council part of who I am, and the other about the film nerd inside me that wants to speak. Feel free to read both or choose only one depending on the time left you have to read this before returning to class or catching a bus etc.. Either way I hope you enjoy!

Student Council part

Hello again Fanshawe, this could be the last time you ever read from me if you're graduating. Guess what? That's good news! Not because you don't have to read my columns anymore, but because your graduating! Look! I'm using a lot of exclamation points!

All right then, I hope you had an amazing time here at Fanshawe and that you will remember the fond times, good laughs and great people. The next part is written to the returning students, but there is also good stuff after that part, so keep reading.

To all the students returning next year, you're in for a treat! A treat filled with free stuff, great events, good times and no candy coating (I mean candy coating in the metaphorical sense)

As of recently I was elected President of the Fanshawe Student Union. This means that I will take every step in my power to make sure your next year at Fanshawe is the best it can be. Promise. (And yeah it does sound cheesy, but I guess that just makes me a cheesy guy)

Ok, back to stuff everyone can enjoy!

As this is my last time to write as VP External and Academic Affairs, I would like to quickly talk about my experience working for you. This past year has been an eye-opening journey into the inner politics of Fanshawe College. There is so much more to the college experience that I didn't know about, so much more information and opportunity to explore. In saying so, I would like to thank all the students at Fanshawe for making this past year so much fun. If you ever need to talk more about anything please feel free to contact me in the FSU office. I will be there until next May.

Nerd Part

(please note that everyone has something nerdy about them, if you think you do not then please take the time to think even harder)

I am a film nerd. I love movies to the point of nerdism.

I just returned home from the film Grindhouse, which was a double bill with one film by Tarantino and other by Rodriguez. It was nerdtastic. It was entertaining with different types of humour, explosions, car chases and even romance. In fact just the right about that no matter what type of movie fan you are; you can find something in these movies to keep you entertained for the entire length of two films. That in itself is technical brilliance.

The art of making a film to be just like a true grind house flick and being able to appeal to the mass markets is fantastic, of course giving thanks to the Weinstein brothers, who by which I may add are geniuses. You may already know some Tarantino work so some background on Robert Rodriguez might make things seem that much more impressive. Rodriguez is the director who adapted Sin City with the assistance of Frank Miller for the big screen, and in doing so making it just as amazing as it could possibly be. He also directed the high school alien teacher infestation flick The Faculty. In my opinion one of the best teeny-bopper horror movies of all time. Not only can he direct and make money on horror and comic book movies, but can create some extremely popular children's movies like the Spy Kids series and Sharkboy and Lavagirl! Frig! That's talent!

Thanks for reading and if I don't see you again then the best to you and I hope your experience at Fanshawe has been awesome times four.
