Band creeping their way to ‘Funshawe'

New Music Night on Friday, September 21 will be playing host to something much more than a band, a performance that's more of a show than anything, when it welcomes The Creepshow to the stage.

The group, which has been together for about four years and have toured across North America and Europe, have done a lot more than they initially hoped for.

“When we first started this band,” said Sean 'Sickboy' McNab, the bands upright bassist. “It was just to play weekend shows and, you know, get some free beer and have fun. But things started to go really well, and we actually started to talk to a label before we did our first show, and after maybe 10 shows we signed a deal, printed a record and ended up touring.”

Like many fledgling groups, MySpace played a large role is getting The Creepshow off the ground. Not only did they find their drummer, Matt Pomade, on the site, but once they had created a band page, things just took off.

“The first practice we ever had we ended up recording a demo of two songs, because it was going very well and we were at the studio- we just recorded,” said McNab. “And (then) we put up a MySpace and it just started going crazy. Our first bunch of shows, a ton of people were there singing along and everything, and we were just like ‘wow this is crazy!'”

The group, which describes themselves as taking elements of old doo-wop sound and 50's rock and roll, gives its fans more than just music, they put on a show complete with costumes, 50's hairstyles, an upright bass.

“Instead of just playing a bunch of songs we wanted to make it a show,” McNab explained. “Almost like a production, not just four people playing some songs, but more of a show. People seem to talk about it. We just went to play Hollywood and people were like ‘Oh we heard your live show was so crazy and fun!'”

The Creepshow will be performing 9 p.m.. on September 21 at the Out Back Shack as part New Music Night.
