Hi, my name is Travis. What's yours?

Hello again Fanshawe students, I trust you are all now settling in and getting a grip on what Fanshawe College has to offer. However I feel that most of you don't know what the FSU has to offer.

The Fanshawe Student Union is your most valuable information resource. We have all the answers to all your questions and concerns. If you don't know who I am, my name is Travis Mazereeuw and I am your Student Union President and FSU Student Representative. For those of you reading this who know who I am, sorry for repeating myself, but I think I may have some info you did not know about me.

Being the FSU president is my full-time job. I work from 9 a.m.-to-4:30 p.m. every weekday (still check emails on weekends) serving students such as yourself. I also sit on many committees and attend policy, academic and code of conduct meetings just to name a few, so if I'm not in my office, chances are I'm in a meeting trying to make Fanshawe the best College on the planet.

This is also my fifth year at Fanshawe College. I've graduated Culinary Management and, most recently, Photography. Having this much experience at Fanshawe has allowed me to view every incident and concern from many different angles, as well as the ability to bring everything possible to the table when it comes to arguments and progressive initiatives in and outside of the college.

Everyday I personally respond to student's emails and questions, this includes any questions or concerns which they may have. Sometimes I can't fix the problem or I don't know the immediate answer, but I do my best to make sure you find it. All of this isn't possible without the amazing Executive you students have elected to work beside me.

Each one of the FSU executives brings something fresh and new to the table everyday. Don't know who we are? Come check out any FSU event, at least one of us will be there. We have had great feedback from the students we have had the pleasure of meeting and we all hope to meet as many students as we can.

This council isn't about popularity or being cool, it's about doing what's right and believing in this institution and its students. If we don't ensure that all of your needs are met or that the college isn't teaching you up to par, it looks bad for everyone. The FSU has the privilege of representing over 15,000 students. That's an honour each of us takes very seriously. So feel free to stop by or drop us an email.

On the note of helping students, the SAC elections just wrapped up and all the candidates are pumped to help you out in each and every one of your divisions (except Motive Power, if you are in Motive Power send me an email and get involved). So stay in touch and get involved. Come out to more events and say hi to more people. If you want the good times to keep on rolling, we can help you keep the good in a constant summersault of excitement through a type of rolling execution. Events you say?

Usually a Student Union is known by its events and that's about it. Well we don't have a problem with being known, but we do have a problem with students thinking we only do events. Every event we put on is for you people, all of you, all of you student people. So feel free to come out to more events, meet some more people and have a freaking awesome memory filled night of awesome memories.

While we are on the vein of parties and events, I will use this time to touch on the few Fleming Drive incidences. Some students wonder why I am opinionated on the matter and some wonder what I'm doing about it. Well truth is I have to be opinionated on the matter because it involves Fanshawe Students, and I do everything in my power to prevent students from hurting themselves or others. No one expects students not to party. No one wants students to not have fun. However it is an issue when students end up with criminal records or in the hospital, or both!

Each and every student here at Fanshawe has the ability to shine and be an incredibly influential and powerful person. Let's use that in a positive way and make sure that the students around us are making the most informed and educated decision. I'm not sitting here telling you to not drink or party, because I do both. But make sure when you do either of them, you know who your affecting and how responsible you are for not just other people, but yourself. You don't have to listen to me and you don't have to care. All I'm asking is that you think about what you want to be and where you want to go, because this is your chance to make those decisions.

The FSU is here. The FSU is here to help. The FSU is here to help you. Yup.
