Exec Corner: Time to buckle down everyone!

So you've been here for just over five weeks and have discovered freedom. No one tells you to clean your room; no one says you can't go out because it's a school night; and no one checks to see if you're doing your homework. Up until now it's been great!

And then you receive your midterms and are shocked to find that you're barely pulling an ‘unsatisfactory.'

So you stop and think about it. There were a few days that beer was your best friend and your alarm clock became the enemy. You remember a couple nights of endless chatting on MSN to avoid the pile of homework. Now you've fallen so far behind that you're not even sure if this is what you want to do anymore. And if that's the case, it may be time to seek out the Counseling and Student Life office here at Fanshawe, because you didn't come here to waste money — lots of it.

Here's my advice; get through what you can and try to save your semester. That way you will at least have those credits under your belt. Then work on prioritizing. Rearranging your furniture can wait, but homework, tests and assignments can't.

Have a plan! One of my friends works on the courses he doesn't like first, to get them out of the way. Then he can work on the ones he likes; otherwise he'll get the ones he likes done and ignore the rest. (We're still waiting to see how this theory pans out.) But this is what I'm talking about — set up a plan for getting back on track because you have to.

Nothing would please me more than to see everyone get through this year, but the truth is that some students wont because of extenuating circumstances. As for the rest of you, it's time to PICK UP YOUR BOOTS AND BUCKLE DOWN!
