Get your pillows ready

Ladies get your pillows ready, because we are going to have a fight.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2007, for the first time ever the Pillow Fight League will be swinging their pillows in Fanshawe's own Forwell Hall. Pillow fighting is on a steady rise in popularity with sold out shows in; Montreal, Toronto, Windsor, Brooklyn, NY and Detroit, Michigan. The company was started in 2004 and has had a growing fan base in every location that it has performed.

What is the Pillow Fight League?

A group of like minded females established a structure and rules to re-create the excitement and challenge of old time wrestling without the expense of a ring and large setup.

The night will consist of eight fights that are made up of two, three-minute rounds. Two professional female pillow fighters tangle on the mats until one wins via pinfall, surrender, or referee stoppage. If a pillow fight ends at the time limit with no winner, a winner is declared by a three-judge committee very similar to MMA and boxing by using a 10-point scale. All fighters are women and the only men associated with the league are in the capacity of referees, some judges or ring announcers.

Pillow fighting may sound like something your little sister did with her friends at slumber parties when they were 10-years-old, but these bouts are real fights with tough girls each with their own persona. If you're still a non-believer; separated shoulders, bruised kidneys and bruised lungs are not uncommon injuries following an evening of pillow fights.

These fighters are not only tough but they all have very colourful personalities like Eiffel Power a 6'3” tower of power, Kilkelly who is an Irish terror, Sarah Bellum the intellectual fighter, or our favourite Betty Clocker a stay at home mom with an outgoing and nasty personality.

This PFL event is also one of the first to be all ages access, so any underage Fanshawe student may purchase a ticket to the event the evening of the show. There are only 50 tickets available for students under 19, all other tickets go on sale Monday, October 29 at 10 a.m. in the Biz Booth.

The first 100 tickets will be sold for $6 as an early bird special. After the first 100 tickets are sold, the regular price of $8 students and $10 for guests is applied. There will be only 350 seats sold for this event. Doors open at 9 p.m. and fights will begin 9:45 p.m. Don't miss this mayhem filled night of unusual fights.

The PFL has a very comprehensive website at www.pillowfightleague.com, if you need any more information on this league.
