Fanshawe Insurance fraternity wins award in D.C.

Members of Fanshawe College's Alpha Rho Chapter attended the Gamma Iota Sigma Management Conference earlier this month in Washington, DC and took home an international award.

Gamma Iota Sigma is an international professional fraternity for insurance, risk management and actuarial science students and Fanshawe is host to the only Canadian chapter of over 50 chapters currently in place.

The Management Conference offered the students career fair, presentations from the insurance industry, professional development and resume workshops and workshops on running a successful chapter. There were a total of 30 attendees from Fanshawe College including current students, alumni and faculty.

The Alpha Rho Chapter was also the recipient of a number of awards recognizing their hard work and dedication over the past year. Alpha Rho brought home the Superior Chapter award, which recognizes superior chapter performance, as well as awards for Community Service, Alumni Relations, Chapter Management, Membership Development and Public Relations.

The chapter was also the recipient of a special Black and Gold award for their work with the Western Area Youth Services and our WAYS Family Christmas event. The Grand Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma bestows the awards based on ongoing activities throughout the year as reported monthly.

Fanshawe has hosted a chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma for seven years now and the work of our members in our community and with the insurance industry has provided students with leadership, communication and organizational experiences that will improve their value to future employers.

The Alpha Rho chapter is open to all business students and for more information contact Cyndi Hornby in the Insurance Business program at chornby@fanshawec.ca.
