Fanshawe celebrates 40 years in style

Fanshawe College will be celebrating 40 years of education by launching the first commemorative coffee table book and a dessert-infused party on Sunday, November 18.

“We have historically celebrated our birthdays, but the 40th is monumental,” Marcoccia said. “We have matured so much as a community college in the last five years.”

The celebration, which will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. downtown at the London Convention Centre, will also feature a display of sweet afternoon treats, including a Fanshawe signature dessert.

“It's a really powerful program,” Marcoccia said about the event, which will feature an student-based MIA band, created especially for the party, the London-based Gerald Fagan Singers and the world famous Elvis impersonator Roy Leblanc.

“There will be a mini-fashion show from our award-winning fashion design students,” added Marcoccia, along with a special video application featuring pre-recorded messages from well-known alumni Paul Haggis, Cheryl Hickey, of “Entertainment Canada,” “Surviorman” Les Stroud and Steve Matthews from World Vision. “The focus is on brining the college to life.”

The Fanshawe College Commemorative book will also launch the afternoon of November 18 and features over 100 pages of photos dedicated to the last 40 years of Fanshawe history.

“It's a photographic journey of the college,” Marcoccia said of the book, which includes a forward by Fanshawe alumni and London Mayor Anne Marie DiCicco-Best.

Fanshawe's anniversary committee have been planning this event for a year, along with help from many Fanshawe programs and students, especially those in Corporate Communications and Public Relations.

Tickets for the event are $5 in advance or $8 at the door of the Convention Centre. Tickets are available from the Biz Booth, Centennial Hall or the Alumni Office.
