Fashion Fashionista: Tis' the start of the shopping season

Treat yourself this holiday season and buy into this year's latest trends

The countdown to the holidays is officially on. Somewhere between costumes, face paint, turkey and stuffing the reality sets in that Christmas is just around the corner. TIME TO SHOP!

Now don't go spending all of your hard earned money (thank you OSAP) in one place. Instead, focus on the season's staples to get you through the New Year.

Statement coats are a great way to start your shopping spree. You will be lost without one this season as bolder equals better. A unique shape, interesting gleam or sporadic patchwork will dazzle things up, as you want your coat to be anything but basic. Make it an investment, as cold weather is inevitable you want something that will work for you for years to come.

The next must have could not have come at a better time. As a girl who spends a lot of her day rushing around all over the map, I am really appreciating the heel-less trend. Tall or short, give your feet a well-deserved break and finally enjoy the ride. A pair of killer new boots is essential and will last and last.

One of the best things about being a girl is ‘playing dress up.' Dresses, fancy and casual, are back and better than ever. Hemlines are up and down, as the sweater dress can knock em' dead, or silky sheer materials can leave little to the imagination. Spice things up with the hottest colours of the year that are, but never limited to: Sapphire blue, chocolate brown, maroon, deep gold… and the list goes on and on. Find a pallet that works with your own tones and textures and your golden.

Overall, the goal is to hunt down the most important garments that you need to complete your look this season. Slim-fit jeans, oversized bags, and scarves galore... And it's never a bad idea to dive into fashions that prevail year after year after year; the little black dress, pumps, cashmere shawl, turtlenecks and tote bags. The sky is the limit, and when it comes to customizing your wardrobe, do what makes you feel fabulous.
