Get Down! at the Shack

Despite the fact that the city of London often gets the reputation of being a conservative city, punk band Get Down! have absolutely no problems with exuding their blatantly left-wing ideals. After all, their logo is a marijuana leaf over top of a peace sign.

Don't mistake them for hippies though — with song titles like “Kill the Government,” “Flies in Your Eyes” and “Global Bukkake,” they're not exactly what you'd expect from the peace-love generation. Nevertheless, their abrasive edge makes for an interesting take on the in your face punk rock genre.

Get Down! were formed right here at Fanshawe College in September, consisting of a three-piece lineup: Dan Price taking vocal duties and lead guitar, Kevin Brasier on bass and Jackson Cromiller behind the kit.

Since their formation, they've kept busy writing, recording and performing their music around London. They've finished a demo, and even played a punk radio show on CHRW, which is currently up on their Myspace at www.myspace.com/getdowntheband. Now they hope to expand their fanbase even further, all the while keeping their do-it-yourself ethic.

What is most interesting about the band, however, is the level of musicianship. Price's guitar solos show that he can play much more than the stereotypical three-chord punk patterns, and there are few rhythm sections that can break down from hardcore punk into a blues groove, as well as Brasier and Cronmiller.

Despite the fact that the band has only been together for a mere three months, they sound as though they've been playing together for years.

December will prove to be a busy month for Get Down!, as they're booked to play several shows this month including this Friday at the Out Back Shack and Saturday at The Wick downtown. So go check them out if you're a fan of fast, loud and hard rock.
