Tindale has his eye on the Tiger

Tiger Woods started when he was a one and a half years old; Matt Tindale started when he was still only two.

Tindale, the leader of Fanshawe's Golf team, will hope to follow in Woods' footsteps and reach his ultimate goal of joining the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour sometime in his career.

Matt TindaleFirst grasping a golf club at the tender age of two, Tindale was encouraged by his grandparents to play, and fist learned the game at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club in his hometown. This is where he was inspired to reach his long-term goal; to play on the PGA tour, Tindale said.

Before reaching his ultimate destination Tindale said he wants to qualify for a mini-tour, such as the Canadian Tour, the Nike Tour, or the Great Lakes Tour. If all else fails Tindale said he would travel to Europe to try and conquer some international links.

“I definitely want to pursue a career in professional golf,” Tindale said.

Currently taking Marketing at Fanshawe, Tindale hopes to take Pro Golf Management, a program potentially coming to the college.

One thing that is for sure however is that Tindale will be back again next season to help lead the Falcon's once again. Last season's rookie of the year for the team, Tindale took over the captaincy this season.

“I really had to step up my leadership skills,” said Tindale. “I had to encourage the team to do well all the time, not let them get into the dumps, and tell them that you can always come back after one bad round of golf.”

The 12th place finish at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association by Tindale was the best by any Fanshawe golfer, and his score of 152 added to the Falcons second place finish in the men's division two standings.

Tindale will lead the Fanshawe golf team into Windsor on October 19th to 22nd at the Fox Glen Golf Club for the 2005 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Ping Open National Golf Championship.
