Kudos for Juno, and its dialogue

Two Canadian actors make Juno a witty teen pregnancy film

Juno

Quirky and unique describe Juno perfectly. While this movie takes a different approach to comedy, it is refreshing, new and an instant hit.

Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page), is an out spoken and unusual teenager. After an awkward encounter with one of her good friends Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera), Juno gets pregnant.

With the help of her friend Leah (Olivia Thirlby) Juno decides that her only option is to have an abortion. However, once she gets to the clinic she can't go through with it, decides that her baby wants to be “borned,” and plans to give the baby up for adoption.

After finding the perfect couple to adopt her baby in the classifieds, Juno breaks the news to her father, Mac (J.K. Simmons) and stepmother, Bren (Allison Janney). They take the news surprisingly well, even offering to get vitamins and make appointments for the pregnant teen. Juno and her father go to meet the prospective parents, Vanessa (Jennifer Garner) and Mark (Jason Bateman) Loring. Thrilled with their normalcy and perfection, Juno decides that they are the ones to adopt her child.

A series of strange events, including a confrontation at the ultrasound clinic, a connection with Mark, and a fall-out with Paulie, twists the plot and forces Juno to grow up and see the world differently.

I thought that this movie was hilarious. It had tons of quick lines, so quick that while your laughing at one you almost miss the next, and lots of unique teenage slang words. Juno is a quirky movie, but it was still awesome.

Aside of the fact that it was an unusual comedy, the plot was very deep at times, ensuring that the movie didn't feel flat or get boring. Ellen Page (X-Men 3) carried her leading role very well. I am proud that she is a fellow Canadian and am looking forward to see her in more movies in the future.

Michael Cera (Superbad, “Arrested Development”), also Canadian, has already proven himself to be a funny and talented actor, and this movie just adds to why we love him.

Jason Bateman (The Kingdom) and Jennifer Garner (The Kingdom) are the balance in this movie against all of the comical characters. J.K Simmons (Spiderman 3) and Rainn Wilson (“The Office”), who plays the variety store clerk, add in so many of this movie's unforgettable lines.

I put one question forward, why does the track team never stop running? I recommend this movie to anyone who likes things a little out of the ordinary and loves to laugh.

Final words: Saw it. Loved it. “Fertile Mertil... you are tore up from the floor up... and this is one doodle that can't be un-did, homeskillet.”
