It's time to take back our environment

“Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.”
— Cree Indian Prophecy

Earth Hour is not enough. Earth Day is not enough either. It's time for Earth Year, Earth Decade and Earth Century. We cannot just turn things off for an hour and then go back to living an environmentally catastrophic, consumerism-based lifestyle. We need to address the root causes of the current environmental crisis; our own wasteful, selfish and materialistic lifestyles.

How dare we be so greedy and shortsighted as to put the growth of the economy and the security of our ‘jobs' in highly polluting industries above the health of this planet? What will be left for the next generation? Will there even be another generation if we continue on the suicidal path we're on?

Many foolish people tend to forget that we are a product of our environment, and we all live downstream. We don't exist in a bubble, although the man-made environment of concrete, steel, and glass, has managed to convince the majority otherwise. We don't see the clear-cuts, the factory farms, and the open-pit mines; all we see is the processed, packaged products that continue to line the shelves, waiting to be consumed, and quickly disposed of in massive dumps, which are also conveniently out of sight.

We are so out of touch with our own life-support system, our natural environment, that we rationalize incredibly irrational behaviors, such as dumping toxic waste into the water we eventually drink, cutting down rainforests that provide the oxygen we breathe, drenching the foods we eat with toxic chemicals, and paving giant parking lots over fertile land, all in the name of ‘progress' and ‘economic development'.

Some mainstream environmentalists argue that we should work with the environmentally irresponsible corporations in order to help lessen their impacts on the planet, instead of confronting them for their crimes. I am not one of these corporate green-washing, phony environmental-opportunist sellouts. I believe we need to punish those who are decimating the planet; not help them market themselves as green.

Let's make one thing clear; as long as there is money to be made, corporations will continue to ravage the planet in search of higher profit margins for their shareholders, without considering human, animal, and plant life. We can petition, protest and lobby all we want, but the only way we can make them understand us is by speaking their language: money. They will only stop destroying the earth when it becomes unprofitable.

There are many ways to disrupt the profiteering of reckless, life-destroying corporations. These can be in the form of economic boycotts and divestments, disruption of destructive practices, direct action and civil disobedience, right up to the type of non-violent economic sabotage used by the Earth Liberation Front (unjustly labeled as one of the top terrorist organizations in the U.S. even though not a single one of their actions has hurt any living being).

The Earth Liberation Front is an international underground organization that uses direct action in the form of economic sabotage to try to directly stop the destruction of the natural environment and to protect ALL life. The ELF is organized into autonomous cells, which operate anonymously, and independently, from one another and the general public. The group contains no hierarchy or central leadership, but operates based on an ideology and the following three principles;

#1 To cause maximum economic damage to a given entity that is profiting off the destruction of the natural environment.

#2 To educate the public on the atrocities committed against the environment and life.

#3 To take all necessary precautions against harming life.

Environmental activists who adhere to these principles and guidelines can represent the ELF and take action using its name. It is this decentralized, anonymous, and non-hierarchal structure that has allowed the ELF to spread worldwide, including southern Ontario. In the United States alone, the ELF has already directly cost corporate eco-criminals nearly $100 million.

Remember, the profit-driven destruction of the environment is a violent attack on you, and future generations! You are the environment, and it's time to start protecting yourself. No Compromise. Earth First!
