Big predictions for April UFC Fight Night

UFC April 2 Fight Night Live from Broomfield, Colorado boasts the best card cable television has seen to date. The live, three-hour event will hit the airwaves at 7 p.m. on Spike TV.

The main event sees Kenny Florian taking on Joe Lauzon in a lightweight bout. Florian comes into this fight the favorite with an MMA record of 9-3 and is 6-2 in the UFC. The 31-year-old Boston native is famous for his submissions, as well as razor-like elbows that were showcased in October of 2006 against former champ Sean Sherk. Lauzon 23, hails from Bridgewater, MA and he comes into this bout with an MMA record of 15-3 and has three wins in the Octagon, most notably his UFC debut where he knocked out Jens Pulver in just 48 seconds.

My prediction: Florian wins by submission.

In welterweight action, Thiago Alves will fight Karo Parisyan. At 24-years-old, Alves is 18-4 in his MMA career, going 6-2 in the UFC. Parisyan is 25-4 with a UFC record of 9-2. Alves is a striker with good grappling skills. The majority of his wins inside the Octagon have come by way of TKO. Parisyan is a Judo expert with great throws, but has yet to score a knockout in the UFC.

My prediction: Alves TKO second round.

Matt Hamill and newcomer Tim Boetsch will clash in a light heavyweight bout. Hamill is an alumnus of the Ultimate Fighter season three, and is the first deaf competitor to enter the Octagon. His pro MMA record is 5-1, with his only loss coming in a controversial decision against Michael Bisping. Tim Boetsch broke into the UFC in a big way last February. After taking the fight on 10-days notice, Boetsch dominated David Heath at UFC 81. At 27-years-old, Boestch has a fight record of 7-1. His exciting fight style and incredible heart could make Boestch the next big thing at 205.

My prediction: Boetsch knocks out Hamill.

Another anticipated lightweight fight sees Nate Diaz go against Kurt Pellegrino. Pellegrino has a 17-3 fight record and is coming off a TKO victory over Alberto Crane in January. Diaz is the younger brother of MMA veteran Nick Diaz. The 22-year-old has an 8-2 professional MMA record, going undefeated in his three UFC fights. Diaz is a grappling expert, with the majority of his wins coming by way of submission.

My prediction: Diaz submits Pellegrino.

In what could be the fight of the night, Houston Alexander looks to avenge his loss to Thiago Silva in a bout with James Irvin. The 8-1 Alexander became an instant fan favorite in May of 2007 when he absolutely destroyed Keith Jardine in 48 seconds of round one. Irvin is 13-4-1 and coincidentally has also lost to Thiago Silva. Irvin's most recent win came in December after Luiz Cane was disqualified. Both of these guys love to throw bombs and this fight is guaranteed not to see the final bell.

My prediction: Alexander wins by TKO.

The fun doesn't stop after the live event either. Spike TV also will premier season seven of The Ultimate Fighter reality series. In this season, coaches Forrest Griffon and Quinton Jackson will go head-to-head with a new crop of light heavyweight up and comers.
