Picture not good in Mirror

Mirrors

Gore, and things that make you jump, are what make Mirrors frightfully good, although not utterly memorable.

Ben Carson (Keifer Sutherland), a disturbed ex-cop with a haunted past, begins a new job as a night watchman, at a burned down department store. While the previous man who filled the positioned disappeared, Ben thought that his new job was going to be a breeze. That is until strange things start to happen around the store. Strange sounds, and unexplainable sights in the mirrors, make Ben think that he is losing his mind.

He turns to his sister Angela (Amy Smart), who he has been living with for months. She tries to tell him that it is all in his head, and that he should just let go of the past and get professional help. After a surprising tragedy, Ben finally turns to his estranged wife, Amy (Paula Patton) and two children, Daisy and Michael, for support and answers, which only makes the matters worse.

Dan, sure that it is the mirrors behind all of the strange things that have been happening, knows that he must do something to keep his family safe. As he begins his journey into the past, he finds out that during the fire, a lot of people were killed and before the building became a department store, it was a mental hospital. With a clear message from the mirrors to find “Esseker,” Dan goes on a mad scavenger hunt to find out who, and where “Esseker” is, save his family, and finally put an end to the death and suffering caused by the mirrors.

Mirrors was scary, but not the usual kind of scary, where the music does most of the work. This was more, scary waiting for things to happen. It had a few surprises and was very gory. Every chance they had to show gore, they went over the top; even the wife's job brought more gore to the movie. Kiefer Sutherland (“24”) was amazing as always. He is such a talented actor, and while his role on television is great, it was nice to see him in a movie again. Amy Smart (Just Friends) has clearly fallen down the Hollywood ladder, as her character was dry, boring, and forgettable.

Mirrors was not a movie that I would rush to see again, either in theatres or when it is released on DVD. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a scary movie that gets your attention from beginning to end.

Final Words: Saw it. It was ok. Couldn't look in a mirror for days.
