Kors suits up to head south

Christmas has come and gone once again, a new year is upon us which means new fashions for the warmer weather ahead. Maybe you're making plans to head south for your reading week vacation or sticking it out in the snow. Regardless, that doesn't mean we can't start collecting the hottest resort trends to get our closets ready for the more favourable months to come!

Resort ‘09 collections have already hit the stores for all those holiday vacationers and spring, which isn't too far off. Whether you're staying home or headed for a hot getaway, here is a review of a favourite resort collection of mine, Michael Kors '09, which captured the best trends for spring.

Michael Kors collection was rich in prints from tie dye to ethnic inspired patterns which reflected precious stones such as malachite, turquoise and marble.

Styles to note from Kors' collections are breezy kaftans dresses in sandy hues matched with waist cinching belts featuring gold buckles and cut-out detailing. Candy coloured shirred maillots and washed moiré maxi dresses with matching head scarves. Though this collection was very rich in colour, Kors didn't fail to include a practical off the shoulder dress that came in black and beige.

On the accessory front, one standout look in particular was the ethnic gold jewellery with a tribal feel. Bold necklaces in gold long strands with a chunky pendant and short multi layered beads paired with matching earrings completed each look. Chunky tribal jewellery is a great statement piece suitable for every season, so you can get maximum wear out of it.

I loved the vibrant colour pallet used in Kors collection; they have me excited for what spring will offer to the mainstream population.

Over all, I think the hippie beach-bum look took on a smart sort of elegance that will have this 33 piece collection sold out in every department store! If you're headed for the palm trees or anxiously waiting for the mercury to jump, take a style que from Michale Kors.

Bonne(shopping) voyage!
