Beauty trends go pastel for Spring

It's a new year, a new season fast approaching which brings forth totally fresh new beauty regimes to get your complexion in with the new. The best makeup looks for Spring 2009 are far from last season's ultra glam look. Rather, smoky eyes, creamy pastels, long lashes and barely touched skin are all the rage. For further inspiration on how to update your daily beauty ritual test out these sultry makeup tricks.

Forget last season's bold brows and heavy liquid eyeliner, this season is all about definition meets softness for that doe-eyed look. Pastel eye shadows and creams as seen on Spring runway shows are already making their way onto cosmetic counters. Teamed with these dreamy pastels was violet eyeliner, which was used to create a soft smoky eye. What's more, this violet eyeliner is said to compliment every skin tone. For the final touch, applying a set of false eyelashes will pull this whimsical look together. As for your eyebrows, beauty experts at Glamour Magazine recommend letting brows grow out and then only trimming the unruly hair, sweeping the rest naturally toward the temple.

Dewy hydrated skin is the look; looking like you're barely wearing any makeup is the trick. Illuminating powder will give you skin lots of natural looking radiance and works great for lightening under eye circles. Bronzer takes a back seat as peach; rose and pastel plum blush colours provide a more innate punch of colour. Skin cosmetics have taken on a translucent appearance; think sheer, light and breezy.

In keeping with the neutral trend, lipstick is taking on the pale 1960's inspired look along with berry tinted lips for a splash of colour. Lip gloss is still a popular finish for lipstick, but only to add shine. Sparkly and bold colours are considered obsolesced come spring.

Instead of buying every new cosmetic product Spring trends are offering, try to utilize what you have from last season. Annalise Kaylor, makeup trend columnist suggests mixing your liquid foundation with facial moisturizer for a sheer, barely there impression. If you're not ready to toss your dark lip stick from Fall, simply mix it with clear balm to lighten the pigment for a trend-on look.
