Funds go beyond goal

Fanshawe College has made significant strides to surpass their original goal of $65,000 for the United Way.

The United Way campaign, which originally began in 1982, has proven all too well that when people come together, great accomplishments can be made.

On January 22, Fanshawe College donated a cheque for $72,620 to the United Way campaign.

“The campaign was a combination of hard work between the community, retirees and volunteers,” said Dave Smith, Manager of Retail Services at Fanshawe College and Co-Chair of the United Way Campaign, who added that the community came together to raise money for a well trusted and respected agency in London.

“The campaign's goal was originally $65,000. We surpassed what we originally anticipated,” said Howard Rundle, President of Fanshawe College. Fanshawe played a vital role with the campaign, having raised $1,800 on the chili-cook-off alone in December.

The United Way of London and Middlesex, is a registered charity that dedicates their efforts by helping to improve the lives of individuals, families and neighbourhoods within our community so people have the ability to reach their full potential.

According to Rundle, volunteers make all the difference in people's lives.

It was the staff and students who took initiative to organize events in order to bring awareness to a worthy cause that will now be able to help the many people within our community.

“It is events such as the United Way campaign that has shown us that students can truly make a difference,” added Rundle.
