A simple appreciation

One thing I don't think most people do enough these days is cherish the small things in life. Just recently I had a death in the family, and like most people who have experienced this you know it throws your everyday routine into chaos, and with that it has got me in a reflective mood thinking about cherishing the everyday small things in life.

We all have our own ways of dealing with difficult situations in life, and one the best ways I think to do so is to remember to enjoy the simple things in life. In today's fast paced society it seems there is never any time to enjoy these things, as most, including myself, are fairly busy with school, work and other concerns, but after this recent death and after much thinking I think it is about time that people, including myself take time to do so. I mean with the chance of leaving this planet at anytime, it is good to enjoy each day to the fullest, and we all have our own ways of doing so. As you read this article sit back and think about something you can do each day to make your life more rewarding, and simpler too.

As an example, one of the simpler things I enjoy doing, which may seem weird to many, is to read the newspaper cover to cover, or listen to music on the radio, oldies for me, either FM, but preferably AM. Yes radio and AM radio still does exist, and yes I am old school in my mentality of reading a newspaper or listening to the radio, as opposed to reading online or listening to an iPod, but it is something which is a simple thing in life for me.

With today's fast paced society, which I can admit I have been a part of it is just an accepted fact that there is literally no time to enjoy these things. I mean heck some people don't even take vacations because they can't get away from their job because they are so busy. On one of my vacation weeks this past summer, I went on a trip to Halifax to bring my grandfather back to the place where he entered Canada back in 1948 from Ireland, and if he didn't come here I wouldn't be writing this article right now. So that also was yet again another example of enjoying a simple pleasure of life.

So whatever yours, whether it be relaxing and reading a good book, or hanging out with an old friend, make time for it because sooner or later you will realize that there may not be many simple things left in life to enjoy, and all the time in the world will never bring those simple things back.
