Dolce & Gabbana gets kissable

I looooooove Dolce & Gabbana. That being said, I am beyond excited for their first makeup collection ever debuting in early February.

Rumours and speculations were flying around last month buzzing about who the famous twosome would choose as their first ever spokes model. Beating out the gorgeous Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson posed in London, England for the Spring 2009 ad campaign.

Epitomizing the iconic Marilyn Monroe, Johansson captured the true glamour of the late star with her ruby red lips and sexy white lingerie. Other shots included a rather bare-faced yet luminous looking Johansson lounging on a bed in a corset, and a darker look featuring a gray dress (obviously from the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2009 collection) and a smoky eye.

Mr. Dolce and Mr. Gabbana are just as excited as I am about their debut.

“We see makeup as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the makeup line like we work on a clothing collection — you can change makeup like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood,” Stefano Gabbana recently told Woman's World Daily.

The makeup itself, designed with the help of makeup guru Pat McGrath, will be packaged in a glamorous and glossy gold case and will be sold in a black velvet pouch (just like Dior and Chanel makeup). The defining difference between Dolce & Gabbana's makeup and other designer's is what's inside. Defying the scent-free trend, the lipsticks will be rose scented, and you will get a whiff of a peppery smell as you swipe on the mascara.

“We wanted to create makeup with a scent. Domenico and I remember when we were children and opened our mother's handbags — the scent of her lipstick trailed out. I observed that when women open makeup, they smell it first,” Gabbana explained.

The spring collection will feature lipstick, lip-gloss, mascara, bronzer, blush, powder foundation, lip and eye pencils, eye-shadow duos and nail lacquer. On par with other designer makeup collections, the lipsticks and glosses will sell for $30, the face powders will cost around $60, and the nail lacquers will go for $20.

Colours from the collection were inspired by the stunning and dramatic colours of the twosome's home of the Mediterranean; vivid blues and turquoises will make up some of the eye palettes, while others will comprise of black and gold, inspired by the island of Stromboli. Some of the lip colours will feature a dark and striking burgundy shade, inspired by Gabbana's favourite flower, the dahlia. Gabbana revealed that if the cosmetics collection sells well, a skin care line could be next.

Unfortunately for us Canadian girls, the line will be sold exclusively to only two Saks Fifth Avenue stores in the U.S. (The flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and their Beverly Hills location). Over in Europe, the line will be sold just as selectively and will only be carried at Selfridges in London and at La Rinascente in Milan. If the line doesn't come to a Holt's near me soon, I might have to make a trip to New York to get my hands on a gold compact slipped inside a small black velvet pouch.
