Tis' the season for hockey here in Fanshawe Athletics and as always our athletes are doing us proud.

Fanshawe hosts a three-on-three ice hockey extramural tournament for the men and enters women's ice hockey participants in two away extramural tournaments.

In late January the Falcon Women placed very well at the WIHOC Lambton Tournament. It was a slow start to the weekend as the ladies faced off against St. Lawrence Vikings. Although they weren't able to score against St. Lawrence they made up in the games to follow.

“After the first game they really started to bond very well, which helps us better as the day went by,” said Teresa Fletcher ladies head coach.

The ladies swept the Humber Hawks with a final score of 2-0. Game three saw the Falcons go head-to-head on the ice against tournament host the Lambton Lions and a very close game it was. With a final score of 3-3 the ladies ended up losing in a shootout.

“We struggled with the reffing all game which we figured since they were the home team.. .but then second intermission I had a little talk with them and we can back from a 3-0 score to tie the game up with 40 seconds on the clock,” said Fletcher. “We lost in the shoot out going through seven players but I am still very impressed with the girls as they came together, listened to me and gave me everything they had.”

The last game of the tournament brought them face-to-face with the ladies of the Conestoga Condors. With a huge win our Falcon Women ended the weekend off right with a final score of 5-0 against the Condors proving they have what it takes to clean up in the league this season.

The ladies will now look ahead to their next tournament at Conestoga College on Friday February 13. However not before our Falcons men get a chance to go before them when they head to their last tournament of the Extramural regular league schedule at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario on Friday, February 6.
