Confessions of a Shopaholic

An amazing series of books makes their way to the big screen and holds true to everything that is “Shopaholic.”

Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) loves to shop. Everything that might be construed as a “want” is a need and a must have for her. She goes to great lengths to get top of the line everything, in every colour.

To afford her expensive habit, Rebecca chose not to work more or find a better job, but to get a lot of credit cards, which she is now unable to pay off. With debt collectors at her door and thousands of dollars owed, Becky doesn't believe that things could get any worse. That is until the company she works for goes under. Desperate she takes a job as a writer at a financial magazine working for Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy) in hopes to climb up to their sister magazine, Rebecca's fashion dream.

She writes under the pseudonym “Girl in the Green Scarf” and has a knack for comparing confusing financial problems to shopping in a way that the ‘average Joe' can understand. She is quickly getting a reputation as a financial guru, while at the same time trying to hide her own financial woes from everyone, especially Luke who she has come to admire and care for. The question remains, how is Rebecca Bloomwood going to get herself out of this one?

A long time fan of the books, I was completely satisfied with how the movie was made. While Confessions of a Shopaholic is quite different from the books, Rebecca is American, works for Luke, etc., they stayed true to the theme of “Shopaholic,” which makes me happy.

Fisher (Definitely, Maybe) was perfect for this role. I love the other movies she has been in and she just keeps impressing me. Dancy (The Jane Austin Book Club), while not what I imagined for Luke, pulled it off really well. He is one those actors who sparkles on screen and is enjoyable to watch. I recommend this movie to fans of the books. as well as those who have never read them and to anyone who likes to shop.

Final Words: Saw it. Loved it. Wow that movie made me want to shop!
