Round shades for Spring

Pack away last year's Wafer shades, round sunnies are the newest item on the horizon for the sundrenched days ahead. Like most current fashions, these shades of the past have gone through the fashion cycle (a few decades long) and have landed their way back on noses of high profile trend setters.

Prior to recent reports, circular eyewear has remained outdated since the reign of the flower children. Round sunglasses were first popularized by former Beatles band member, John Lennon and soon became part of his signature look.

Back to the present, fashion fringe members such as Mary Kate Olsen and Nicole Richie have been spotted sporting the Chanel half tints - one of the first rebirths of the owl eye specs. Only this time around, they're oversized.

The Spring runways also housed these oversized oval frames creating a buzz amongst the audiences. A few standout examples that caught my eye were from the showings of Proenza Schouler, Ralph Lauren Collection, and Dries Van Noten. All of which came in a variety of colours and materials from black to brushed metal to tortoiseshell.

These stylish frames aren't exclusive to the runways; I've researched a couple different retailers who provide excellent budget friendly versions of these designer shades. Urban Outfitters has a variety of vintage-inspired round shades ranging from $16 to $24 all of which are 100 per cent UV protective. Forever 21 also offers a few pair of circular sunnies in black plastic as well as tortoiseshell print for the bargain price of $5.80.

When purchasing your new set of frames, the first thing to remember is that their purpose is not only to accessorize your outfit, but more importantly to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful rays. Always be sure to purchase lenses with ninety nine to one hundred per cent UVA and UVB protection. You'll notice a sticker on the lens indicating that the glasses are UVA and UVB protected.

Polish off your warm weather look with a top trend for the spring and summer seasons: round framed sunglasses. From resin to glossies, oversized and tinted, this retro style of shade is eye-catching.
