Fanshawe Shinerama aims to raise $10,000
The 45th Annual Shinerama fundraising event is hitting London and you're invited to join us as we smash last year's total with a goal of raising a whopping $10,000!
Fanshawe College is launching their 2009 Shinerama Crew on September 12 and hitting London streets, looking for donations to help support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in their quest for a cure or effective control of this devastating condition.
Cystic Fibrosis is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting young Canadians today. It affects the lungs and digestive systems, dramatically affecting the life expectancy of children diagnosed with this condition. Research and funding make a huge difference in battling this disease. Back in 1960, a child diagnosed with CF was not expected to live long enough to even attend kindergarten. Events like Shinerama and the efforts of volunteers have raised funds over the last 45 years to change that. Today, Canadians with Cystic Fibrosis may live into their late 30s!
Every year, organizations across the country participate in this event, where volunteers are willing to push up their sleeves, get a little crazy and ultimately make a huge difference. Last year volunteers we're able to raise an incredible $940,000! The fun you'll have and the friends you'll make on this wild day are just a bonus!
Fanshawe College and UWO have always led the way in showing London the kind of difference that our focused, energetic students can make in raising money for a great cause. Putting the “fun” back in fundraising, this year will be no exception.
Volunteers will be divided into groups of five, with a Team Leader designated to each group. Your group will then be “let loose” on the city, taking up residence in parking lots, shopping centres and plazas around town competing to bring home the most donations.
Have a talent to share? Play an instrument? Juggle? Got a wicked cartwheel? Nothing is off limits as Fanshawe's Shinerama Crew is unleashed to show London that we're serious about raising money to help in the mission to cure Cystic Fibrosis.
Shinerama is a college and university tradition in Canada. Ask your parents; they probably came out and supported Shinerama activities back when they were in college too. It's a great way to kick-off the school year, and meet people you'll be partying with all year!

Each participant will receive a free Shinerama t-shirt and your name will be entered into a draw to win some wicked prizes. Prizes? For helping out and raising money for a great cause? I know, it just keeps getting better!

- Four-month membership to the Campus Fitness Centre
- Free bowling at Palasad & Fleetway
- Laser Quest passes
- Gift cards and “special prizes” from Sin City
