Varsity tryouts happening now at Fanshawe

All you sport enthusiasts be sure to get your ass in gear as tryouts are in full swing for all competitive sport teams at Fanshawe College.

Tryouts for both men's and women's soccer teams began Monday August 31st and will continue all this week.

The soccer season is a quick one, according to Ernie Durocher, Athletic Officer for the Athletics Dept at Fanshawe, with Nationals beginning as early as the first week of November.

First home game for soccer is on September 18.

So far both men's and women's sport teams have had great turnouts with people eagerly awaiting to see if they will make it on to their chosen team.

Among fresh faces anticipating being a part of their first college team, there are many returning “all star” athletes who will once again please their fans at home and at away games.

Returning all-star athletes for men's soccer are as follow:

Kofi Boating, Steve Hepton and Mark Haynes are just some of the returning athletes who will surely be crowd pleasers.

Second year returning basketball players are Manny Campbell, Jordan Dixon and Bryan Kamerman, who are rated top players that will definitely turn heads again this year for all they contribute to their team.

For all interested in badminton, tryouts are set to begin on Monday, September 14.

According to Joanne Verbeek, Athletic Officer for the Athletics Dept at Fanshawe, both men's and women's cross-country teams are expected to be going to Nationals this year.

As for the provincial level, both teams are expected to walk away with a double gold.

For all golf enthusiasts, tee-off times will begin at 2PM sharp on Thursday September 17, Friday September 18 and Monday September 21 at the Thames Valley Golf course.
