Cross Country squad starts season on the right foot

The Fanshawe Falcons Cross Country squad started their season on the right foot at the St. Lawrence College Invitational cross country race hosted by St. Lawrence College, in Brockville. The defending CCAA national champion women's team got things started taking first place easily by sweeping the podium, as well as having all eight competitors finish in the top 10 overall. Leading the way was returning runner Becky Pieterson, finishing the 5km course in 19:13, closely followed by newcomers Liliane Sparkes and Erika Houde-Pearce, with times of 19:21 and 19:37 respectively. Fanshawe continued to roll in the men's race taking first place with five runners finishing in the top ten. The men were led by veteran John Mason, pictured above, who finished first overall in the 8km race, with a time of 26:56, followed closely by rookie Biemnet Yemane with a time of 27:12. photo: Sean tilden
