It's time for a greener Fanshawe!

Yes, I know the phrase ‘greening' anything is almost on the verge of overplayed these days, but it got your attention and the idea of making things more environmentally friendly still applies.

Welcome to the first year of the Fanshawe Environmental Network, your very own campus green team ready to battle it out for more sustainable surroundings. If you missed our booth during clubs day don't worry, there's still plenty of ways you can join. If you've ever felt inclined to care about anything environmental, then we've got a place for you. There are a lot of things we'd like to accomplish this year, small steps like lowering energy consumption around the school (turning more lights and computers off at night) all the way to larger initiatives such as implementing composting programs and more biodegradable food packaging items (and maybe getting rid of those plastic water bottles once and for all!). We're also going to be focusing a lot on getting the information out there, starting the week of October 12 look for our tables around the school featuring eco-products for sale, pamphlets and resource books a plenty, and even a chance to make your own t-shirt!

We'll also be hosting our first ever film screening that week, The Age of Stupid, playing at over 60 colleges and universities across North America during the same week! The film has been getting lots of attention lately as it had a worldwide premiere in September, playing in over 700 theatres in 40 countries. It features a man living in a devastated world of 2055 looking back on footage from 2009 and asking himself: “Why didn't we do something to rescue our climate when we had the chance?” It's especially a great film for any of those global warming skeptics out there, as it deals with the social and environmental impacts of climate change, an undeniable issue.

To get involved in any of our activities join our mailing list at fanshaweenvironmentalnetwork@live.com, or join our Facebook group under the same name. We have weekly meetings that you can find out about through the group, and also receive updates about topics covered if you can't make it out.

We're more then open to any suggestions for things you'd like to see, oh and also stay tuned for info on our Green Pub Night in November, which will definitely be a good time!
