JRMA celebrates award winners with first ever CD

The Jack Richardson Music Awards 2009 CD will be having its special release party on Saturday, October 24 at the Aeolian Hall.

The CD features 10 local musicians — all JRMA 2009 award winners. The list includes London metal artists Bobnoxious performing their original song Reaction, the Shelly Rastin Band singing He's Gone, and After Four covering the Christmas favourite, The Holly and the Ivy.

To create this landmark recording, local musicians and artists worked with producer Will Haas at Willyboy Recording Studios between May 25 and August 1 of this year. Haas donated his time and studio for this project after receiving permission from the Jack Richardson Music Award Committee.

All proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to the JRMA educational fund. These funds will enhance the educational sessions held the Saturday prior to the annual Jack Richardson Music Awards, planned for mid April 2010. The goal for this project is to celebrate the diverse music scene of London by recording the 2009 award winners. Haas contacted all of the winners, approximately 23 different artists, completed recording and got clearance for 10 different performances. These artists on the CD will have control of the master tapes and will receive some CDs for their personal use.

Other artists on the CD are The Rizdales, Shane Cook, The HooDoo Bash featuring Frank Ridsdale, John Acquaviva, Foxtail, The London Blues Project featuring Tim Woodcock, and the youth award winners from John Paul II with their band, FO. All of the artists involved with this CD have been invited to attend the CD release event, giving audience members a chance to talk to them about the songs and recording process.

This CD will be on sale at local musical outlets beginning Tuesday October 27 for $10 but at this release party the JRMA committee has decided to put it on pre-sale for “Pay What You Want,” any donation that evening will receive a copy of this historical CD of local talent.

Special note should be given to Haas, besides donating his studio and staff for this CD he also paid for the design, printing and manufacturing of 1,000 units to be used for this fundraising initiative. He also acted as the executive producer of the CD with Cody Taylor as the assistant engineer. The photography of the special foldout cover was done by Joshua Hakin, a wonderful addition to the overall production of this CD.

You have the opportunity to experience this evening for free and make your own decision on the music produced by local artists.

Everyone is invited to this event, taking place Saturday, October 27 between 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There's no admission charge, it's all ages event and there will be free munchies!
