Falcon men dominate Humber Hawks in hoops

In what was clearly an early season statement game, the Fanshawe Falcons men's team defended home court with a vigour knocking-off rival Humber 52-41 in a defensive tussle to improve the Falcons record to a perfect 6-0.

Entering the game the Falcons Pat Wright felt that if the team were to be successful they would need to “control their big guys” and get the rebounds.

“Humber has big guys inside the key and we will need to compete against them,” he said.

Consider Wright prophetic.

“We played a solid defensive game tonight, we locked them down on defence and did our best yet with rebounds,” said the Falcons Jordan Dixon.

The Falcons played strong and committed defence. Boxing out Humber's big men was tough but the Falcons didn't let their size get in the way. The men communicated well on the floor and it showed out there. Offensively the team could have made better shot selections and driven harder to the net.

“Our defence was good but our offence definitely lacked,” said Wright.

The game tipped-off with both Fanshawe and Humber off to slow starts as both teams tried to get a feel of the game. The Falcons eventually started to put up the points gaining and holding the lead throughout majority of the first half and all of the second half.

The Falcons Dixon had an explosive night as teammate Manny Campbell explained “Jordon was on fire and lighting it up out there. It was his night tonight.”

Dixon scored a game high 22 points.

A win is a win and the men earned it since Humber is rated as one of the Falcons toughest opponents. Look for the men to continue to build on their strong start. The men all stressed strongly they need all players to go to practices and keep strong as a team. Look for their offence to get better with more players finding their hot spots on the floor.
