Open Mike Nite during I-Week – sign-up now open!

International students! Are you dreaming of stardom when you should be memorizing that formula? Maybe you spend your time tapping out tunes on your binder when you should be typing up your notes?

Then we need you!

If you have a song to play, a joke to tell, a dance to perform, or a rap to rhyme, stop robbing the world of your hidden talents. Sign up now for I-Week's Open Mike Nite, Wednesday, Feb. 3!

Open Mike Nite is an I-Week event that provides a showcase for the talents of Fanshawe's international students. This is YOUR space to share YOUR take on the arts with other students and staff. We can't promise worldwide fame and fortune, but we can guarantee a good time and a chance to wow a fun and friendly audience.

In past years, this event was called the International Talent Showcase and it featured gifted Fanshawe students who offer a taste of music and dance forms from their part of the world. For students who have attended, all of them from different programs and different regions of the globe (including Canada), it has proved to be a fun way to relax, break the language/culture/program barrier and get to know each other outside of classes. It's amazing what kind of magic can happen when people from around the world get together to have some fun.

The shift from talent show to ‘open mike' format signals that we are opening the space to spoken word and performance artists, comedians and storytellers, as well as musicians, singers and dancers of all genres. It also leaves room for audience members and performers who may feel inspired to jump up and freestyle!

To participate, just drop in to the International Office and ask to add your name to the Open Mike sign-up sheet. Our Events Coordinator will either speak to you in person or get back to you with more information and to arrange any technical requirements.

This year, I-Week falls between February 1-5. Make sure to get your name in before Monday, January 25. That way, we can get all the details nailed down beforehand to make sure this truly is a “Nite” to remember!

In the meantime, stay tuned to this space next week for more I-Week sneak previews.
