Local Business Profile: East end tradition serves up diner style value

Warmth, great food, great service and great atmosphere is what the Delmar has been serving up for over 50 years. It is very much an east London diner tradition often frequented by Fanshawe students.

When you first walk into this diner you may think you have walked back in time, but what you really have done is taken a step back into an era of great food and a great diner experience that is really hard to find these days.

The brown bench seating, diner counter and overall 1970's styling reflect the working class roots of east-end Londoners, who, like students, not only enjoy good food but also great value too. With country music playing faintly in the background, and the smell of home cooked food in the air, it is no wonder why this diner has become a staple of many.

Interior of the Delmar

Whether you are looking for a hot, hearty breakfast that is served all-day long, or a quick soup and sandwich on the go, Delmar has got you covered, according to general manager Maria Nikas who says anything you choose to order at the restaurant is a good choice.

“Our burgers are great, our breakfast definitely is great, our clubhouses... our sandwiches, I think they all appeal.”

Breakfast is served all-day and ranges in price from $5.30-$8, hamburgers and fries are priced around $6-$7, and what better way to top off a hamburger and fries than with a nice creamy milkshake, which is made in front of you at the diner counter for a cool $4. How can you go wrong with good food, good service and a friendly atmosphere? It's also a good way to shake off those winter blues.

Delmar Restaurant is located on Dundas Street East at Vancouver, just one block east of Second Street. It's open Monday-Saturday from 6 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. for your dining pleasure.
