If you want blood, you got it

Edge of Darkness (2010)

Edge of Darkness will have you on the edge of your seat! A blood-bath start to finish, this murder mystery directed by Martin Campbell was inspired by the 1985 TV mini-series of the same title and same director.

Mel Gibson in Edge of DarknessStarring Mel Gibson as Boston detective Thomas Craven, the film follows the investigation into the murder of Craven's only child, daughter Emma (Bojana Novakovic). Because the crime involved a policeman, it is believed that Detective Craven was the real target and therefore he is cut from taking part in the investigation. This leaves Craven with an abundance of time on his hands to put the pieces together and ultimately start up his own private investigation into the truth behind the murder. He is determined to find closure.

Overall the film was full of action and heavily loaded with extreme violence. Though Gibson has aged since his days in films like What Women Want and The Patriot, he's in tiptop shape as an experienced cop living with nothing to lose.

The themes of this film don't only include crime and mystery but, as the plot deepens, government corruption and a variety of big money pay-offs are exposed. That being said, all the twists and turns of Craven's actions intersected with facts revealed throughout the story of Emma's real life, things became hard to follow. The pacing was pretty good but slow at certain points leaving the audience bothered and wanting something to happen to progress the story.

In the end the film is definitely worth the price of admission. The dark gloomy Boston is a perfect setting for the thriller. You'll be anxious in your seat knowing that no matter where the characters venture-no one is safe, not even high-profile citizens with tight security.
