My pro sports wish list this year

I've checked it once, and I've checked it twice but I'll try to be nice when I outline my wishes for the sports world during the holiday season.

I wish Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts continue to improve upon their National Football League (NFL) leading undefeated record, and maintain their momentum towards a Super Bowl victory.

I wish that J.P. Ricciardi invests the rest of the Toronto Blue Jays free agent spending money on players that have more of a proven track record, compared to the $47 million for five years he threw at B.J. Ryan who just finished his first full season as a closer.

I wish Canadian place kicker Shaun Suisham gets picked up by another NFL team, after being released by the Dallas Cowboys whom he kicked perfectly for.

I wish Michael Irvin will smoke his pipe on a live ESPN football telecast.

I wish the Toronto Raptors will win a few games over the holidays. Well, at least a couple anyway. One maybe? I give up; they're a lost cause.

I wish that all six Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) teams remain where they stand for the rest of the season, currently all holding playoff positions.

I wish Team Canada executive Wayne Gretzky puts sentiment and obligation aside and chooses the players that are most deserving and that are playing at an elite level when it comes time to select the roster for the 2006 Olympic team.

I wish Terrell Owens remains suspended for the rest of this year and does not get signed by another team afterwards. I am just completely disgusted by seeing him in the headlines so often, only for trashy, tabloid like reasons.

I wish I was a full moon shining off a Camaro's hood.
OK, that is a line from a Pearl Jam song, but it just seemed to fit so well.

I wish the Canadian Junior hockey team can defend their championship at the annual Junior Hockey Championships that will be held in Vancouver this year.

I wish former women's tennis star, Martina Hingis, can make a successful return to the professional circuit after she announced she was returning next season after being forced to retire in 2002 due to injuries.

I wish the two Carolina Panther cheerleaders that were caught, “being naughty” to continue with the Christmas theme, somehow receive their own Christmas special to be aired on television sometime over the holidays.

I wish that the New York Yankees fail to sign any relevant player to add to their over-priced franchise.

And finally, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Don't eat too much turkey.
