It's the best price in town!

Last year Fanshawe staff and students set a new record with a $95,000 donation to United Way. This money, raised through special events and donations, helped many agencies within our communities provide essential support to children, families and individuals.

Many people within our region continue to cope with difficult financial conditions and the need for the services supported by United Way continues to rise. This assistance would not be possible without our help.

Here are a few facts:

- One in five children in London lives in poverty

- There are approximately 1,500 homeless people in London with 360 shelter beds available

- One in five of us will experience a personal mental health issue during our lifetime

- One in four children entering the school system is not ready to learn

- One in five Londoners is an immigrant

How does United Way help?

United Way is dedicated to improving the lives of all people and creating a community where everyone matters. We all deserve a good start; however, not everyone has access to the same support systems. United Way focuses on making meaningful, lasting changes in people's lives, while offering help at a time when it's needed the most. For example, last year:

- Over 4,000 households accessed one of four United Way funded neighbourhood resource centres in London and accessed emergency supports like baby food and diaper banks, meal programs and employment supports

- Almost 7,000 people accessed United Way - funded individual counselling or group workshops to help address issues related to depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, suicide and other significant mental health concerns. The local crisis line funded by United Way, received an additional 16,000 calls

- Nearly 10,000 children attended United Way - funded free or low-cost summer or after-school programming, helping build selfesteem, gain friendships and enhance literacy.
