How does your Mo grow, bro?

November is going to be one hairy month: Movember is taking over Fanshawe.

Movember is a not-for-profit organization that puts a new face on men's health during the month of November. It encourages men to start the month off clean-shaven, and grow the best moustache — or Mo — they can grow throughout the month.

The Mo movement is not just for men; women can get involved by sporting plastic moustaches, temporary tattoos or marker Mos.

Mo Bros and Sistas raise funds by asking family and friends for donations during the month, which go to research, support, education and awareness initiatives for men's health. In Canada, Movember funds benefit Prostate Cancer Canada (www.prostatecancer.ca).

According to the Movember Canada website, "Mo Bros (and Sistas) become walking, talking billboards for the cause, raising awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often-ignored issue of men's health."

Last year, nearly 256,000 men and women worldwide raised CAD $42 million for men's health.

Fanshawe kicks off Movember with registration week from November 1 to 5. Register with a completely clean-shaven face at the Biz Booth for $5 — they'll take your picture to track how much your Mo grows throughout the month. You'll receive a pledge form to raise money for Movember. The registration fee also gets you a VIP pass into the Moustaches and Miniskirts Pub Night in the Out Back Shack on November 25. All registrants must return to the FSU Main Office (SC2001) on November 24 before 5 p.m. for their official photo to become eligible to be Fanshawe's Mr. Movember 2010.

All the details are on www.fsu.ca, and more detailed information on the cause can be found at ca.movember.com.

Those who aren't raising funds can purchase advance tickets for the Moustache and Miniskirt Movember Pub Night for $5, or $6 at the door. All proceeds go to Prostate Cancer Canada.

The FSU is currently investigating a grand prize to be drawn the night of the party. Everyone who attends the event will receive a ticket for the draw, and the contestants may receive extra tickets based on the money they raised on their pledge sheets.

There will be plenty other prizes to win at the pub: the Bro with the best Mo will be crowned Mr. Movember; the Sista with the best Mo will be crowned Miss Movember; the Bro with the worst 'stache will claim the Lame-Mo title and the person who best incorporates their 'stache into a costume will take home the Best Character Mo prize.

For Mo Sistas and Bros who are a bit facial-hair-challenged, fake 'staches will be sold at the Biz Booth, including Mo hair clips, temporary tattoos and even Mos on sticks.

There will also be a bake sale on November 17 in F-Hallway, featuring cupcakes with all kinds of tasty icing Mos — there's no more delicious way to support men's health!

The Out Back Shack and Oasis will also be selling paper moustaches for $1 each throughout the month. The donations can easily be added to your bill when you buy food.

Join in the month of Movember for this Mo-st excellent cause.
