Food for thought: Something to wok your palate

The world we live in is filled with many wonderful things. Some change and some stay the same. One thing that never changes is food. We know it, we love it and we (literally) can't live without it. If food is life then we truly try to live life to the fullest. Both of our programs at Fanshawe involve us being out in public situations and, more often than not, around food.

“Food for Thought” will be just that; our attempt to lend an experienced opinion on food in and around London from the perspective of working student (which many of you are, I'm sure) with a limited budget. We'll also discuss nutrition and recipes that are easy on your wallet. London holds many little culinary gems that not many know about.

One such place is a walk-in eatery right in the heart of downtown called Wok'n Chopsticks. Located only a stone's throw away from Dundas and Richmond, Wok'n Chopsticks offers a perfect meal solution anytime. Due to its walk-in nature, don't expect a lot of seating. There are a handful of stools set up along counters that line either side of the wall. They have a fairly large Vietnamesebased menu to choose from, which allows for several dishes that are made to order. Unfortunately, they do not have much in the way of combos, which may turn some people off. In any case, our personal favourite is the Pad Thai ($6.00 + tax) which is always made fresh to order. And the serving size? Let's just say we always split an order and never leave hungry. The Pad Thai definitely has a spicy kick to it (especially if you sprinkle it with lime juice from the lime garnish).

If you're not in the mood for Vietnamese cuisine, Wok N' Chopsticks also offers a selection of fresh, hot pizza. One of the most popular orders is the two slices of pepperoni pizza and a pop for $3.50 + tax. For a larger group, a large pepperoni pizza will only set you back $6.99. The standard dips are also available for all you pizza aficionados.

All in all, Wok'n Chopsticks have managed to do what its location's predecessor could not: stay in business. In our opinion, Wok'n Chopsticks is an option you can't go wrong with, no matter the time of day. Whether you're waiting for your next bus, or looking for somewhere cheap to eat downtown that isn't McDonalds (ugh...) please do yourself a favour and give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
