Zoot: Trends to be booted in the New Year

The New Year is finally here and it is time to say goodbye to some of 2010's trends and welcome in the new ones. While 2010 had some memorable moments and advancements in the fashion industry, it had a few slip-ups in men's apparel that must not be repeated this year. That being said, 2011 holds some exciting innovations in men's fashion trends that are soon to be released.

The first male fashion mistake that needs the boot is the harem pant, a baggy pant that is tapered at the ankle and has side flaps on the hip that button around the waist area. These pants are not overly flattering on women to begin with, so when they started introducing them to men's apparel, it was obvious it was going to be a fashion disaster. While the harem pants were a little more accepted in Asia and were often worn by various male pop stars, they completely plummeted in North America and were almost immediately placed on fashion police's "don't" lists.

Clothes with excessive graphics, patterns and designs ruined a lot of well made clothing and outfits. Ed Hardy had quite a few shirts and sweaters that were covered with tons of elaborate tattoo art which all just became a blur and spoiled not only the clothing, but also the individual designs as well. In this case, more often than not, less is more professional and fashionable.

Matching everything in a man's outfit was another huge fault in 2010. Complementary colours are definitely key to a successful outfit, but when everything is precisely matched including hats, shoes, accessories and shirts, the outfit tends to look quite childish and goofy. Soulja Boy was a prime example of this excessive matching.

Men's leggings and tights were also unfortunately introduced in 2010 by designers such as Qasimi and did not succeed in adding much to the male wardrobe. Since the leggings are so tight and were originally designed to fit a woman's smaller legs, they do not work well with a male physique and are one of the most unflattering articles of clothing a man could wear. Celebrities such as Russell Brand and Adam Lambert have attempted to pull of leggings but in reality, tights should be left to Batman and Robin.

Tacky ties are the final fashion mishap that needs to be eliminated in 2011. They have been out-ofdate for quite some time but somehow reappeared in 2010. Men thought that adding a tie to any outfit made it more sophisticated, but when the majority of men picked out a tie with a tacky design, it ended up ruining the wardrobe.

Even though 2010 had a few fashion disasters, the New Year has a lot of fresh and new advancements in the fashion world that are sure to overshadow the mistakes made. As 2011 begins, it is time to boot out the fashion mishaps and move on to newer and better things.
