Fashion show makes charity sexy

Get ready for a night of lingerie, burlesque and hip-hop — all for a great cause!

On February 9, dancers from around London are taking over the Tap House on Richmond Street to put on INFUSION's annual lingerie show. The money raised goes to INFUSION Canada, a registered charity that supports cancer survivors.

"We have a night of entertainment," said Shawna Kwan, owner of Elan Dance Arts studio in Lambeth and creative director for INFUSION. "We have dancing and modeling of lingerie. We also have a guest performer doing some burlesque pole-dancing."

Two shows are put on annually to raise funds for INFUSION — the lingerie show and the fashion show in March — and bring in close to 1,000 people altogether. According to Kwan, the shows have raised almost $200,000 since they began in 2003. The money has funded bursaries for cancer survivors aged 13 to 30, which can go towards post-secondary education. "We're the only charity in Canada that provides bursaries to cancer survivors of those ages," Kwan said.

Dancers have been practicing for over a month to prepare for the two dances taking place at the lingerie show. Models have a choreographed routine, and will be showing off lingerie from The Stag Shop and Love, Poetry Corsets, designed by a Fanshawe grad. A burlesque performer, sponsored by The Stag Shop, will ensure the audience is in for a racy evening.

The show starts at 10:30 p.m., with free appetizers served at 10.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or through an INFUSION volunteer. For more information, check out the Facebook event: tinyurl.com/infusionfashionshow. To learn more about INFUSION, visit www.infusioncanada.org.
